Heritage
Despite our sleek, contemporary electronic and controlled lives, there seems to be inside of us all an inexplicable pull towards the charm, the story and the security of age-old houses. Some of them are worn, dilapidated and crumbling. Others have a greater hold on the present and cling to their foundations tenaciously and stubbornly.
The number of times we see cars parked on country verges, occupants mesmerised by the romance of the heritage cottage in front of them, or passers-by unable to resist the photo shoot of the decade, is extraordinary. We love the modern. We love our gadgets. We love progress, most of us. But yet we are still drawn to the simplicity and soul warming romance of the past – the old farm sheds, echoing a myriad of stories simultaneously victorious and tragic, the crumbling chimneys and falling walls, the weather beaten stands of homes that once spawned history at its finest.
For many of us the call to own a piece of the past is inherent and for some persistent and strong. It is this connection that binds the past to the present and solidifies our own foundations. We can’t know fully where we are going if we don’t know from whence we came.
In Tasmania celebrating the past is one of the things for which we are renowned. Port Arthur, Salamanca Place, Hobart City Centre, Richmond – all attest to the wonderful heritage that is ours. Tasmania is replete with heritage buildings and with hundreds of cottages, buildings and sheds from the early 1800’s. This is indeed one of the charms that keeps tourists flocking to the state each year.
Here, more than in any other place, it is possible to purchase a piece of our nation’s history and be a part of the preservation process. At NationRE we are proud to be specialising in the sale of Heritage Property and Estates throughout Tasmania.
