Art Nouveau 1890 – 1905

While not solely an architectural style, Art Nouveau (French for new art) was a reflection of the times. It was the notion that all aspects of life should reflect art and nature. So it was that much of the architecture of the times had flowing forms that were meant to symbolise nature with its winding branches, leaves and adornments. It was not a style that lasted long, but it was important in its bridging between Classicism and Modernism.
